1 – Research your keywords. Use Googles web-master tools to find out which words are right for your niche. This will also give you an idea of how you should set up your site and what topics you should cover.
2 – Don’t “cram”. Forcing too many keywords in will count against you, likewise forcing the natural language of your copy to fit in awkward sounding phrases will put your site visitors off and count against you. A maximum of 3 uses per one hundred word for any particular phrase you may be trying to rank for.
3 – Be a part of the wider community in your niche. Join in discussions, add value. This may lead to the opportunity to add a link back to your site, and even better you might be recommended through “word of mouth” as a great site to go to for information in your field.
4 – While we are on the subject of your site. Have you optimized it?. What are your page headers? Are they “on topic”? Do they adequately describe the content? Have you a site map for visitors and search engines? (they are often two different things by the way). If there is an option for Meta-tags, fill it in, use the correct keywords for your site.
5 – Adapt and survive. If a landing page is not getting enough unique visitors, or, if those visitors that do come “bounce” straight back out again. Change it. Look carefully at it and be honest with yourself. Don’t let a bad page fester, it can bring your site rankings down all on it’s own.
6 – Have patience. No search engine gives top ranking to a new site straight away. Learn as you go. Try new techniques. Consider automating some of the more technical or time consuming tasks such as link building or adding content. This will free up time for you to be creative in other areas.
Finally, keep at it. Read up on reputable sites about methods of building your online business in a way that will make it a success in the long term. Consider speeding up some of the repetitive processes with some affordable automation software for pre-optimized site building, effective and ethical link building or even sources of good content to give you the edge over any competition.
